Chapter 3: The Person Who Believed in Me

The End of One Era. The Beginning of Another.

There are people who pass through your life. And then there are people who quietly change it forever. I don't think we always realize who those people are in the moment. Sometimes, we don't truly understand their impact until years later.

I started my first job when I was sixteen years old. To everyone else, it was probably just another part-time job. To me... It became the place where my life quietly began to change. I met my manager, Michelle. At the time, I was still that quiet, shy girl who didn't think she had much to offer. I second-guessed myself constantly. I stayed in the background whenever I could. But Michelle saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself. She believed in me before I ever believed in myself. She challenged me. Encouraged me. She celebrated my successes before I even recognized them as successes. And she cared about me far beyond the job. One of my favorite memories is when she took me to get my hair and makeup done for prom. Looking back now, I realize it wasn't just about prom. It was about making a young girl feel beautiful. Feel confident. Feel worthy of being seen. I don't know if Michelle will ever fully understand the impact she had on my life. But she helped take a quiet little mouse of a girl and slowly showed her she deserved to have a voice. I carried those lessons with me long after I left.

For fifteen years, the mall wasn't just where I worked.

It became my classroom. I learned how to connect with people from every walk of life. How to listen before speaking. How to solve problems with kindness. How to stay calm when everything around me felt chaotic. How to make someone feel welcome the moment they walked through the door. At the time, I had no idea I was preparing for a career that didn't even exist yet. Life has a funny way of doing that. Sometimes the chapters we think are ordinary end up preparing us for the biggest dreams we'll ever have.

Looking back now, I realize something. Confidence doesn't usually appear all at once. Sometimes... It's borrowed. Borrowed from the people who believe in you until you're finally able to believe in yourself. If you've ever had someone who saw something in you before you could see it... I hope you've told them thank you. Because they may never truly know how much they changed your story.

Tomorrow I'll share the years where I was still searching, trying to figure out who I was, what I wanted, and where I belonged. Those years weren't easy, but they were necessary.
